Community Visits
Throughout the year Flixton Manor plans and books visitors from
outside the home to come in to entertain us all. The residents choose who they would like to see and the visits are
planned around their favourite performers.
We have some firm
favourites who come into the home several times per year, where they perform songs from the musicals or from
different era’s and decades.
Anyone we try out who has not visited us before, we usually hold a residents
vote as to whether they come back to us again.
Amongst the singers / entertainers we have our very own
Elvis.
Also at Flixton Manor
we have Guest Speakers who come into us from many places. For
example,
The
ImperialWarMuseum came in to deliver a talk and handed round
various artefacts of certain episodes of time that all our residents were familiar with. The residents were invited to discuss their own experiences and a fulfilling afternoon of
reminiscence and memories was had.
Another guest speaker
to Flixton Manor was in the form of
“Leslie” who read to our residents from her own War
Diary.
The local Mobility Shop have also paid us a visit and set up shop and
discussed with the residents various equipment to assist and aid them.
Our local Florists comes into the home and holds a professional floral
display and we raffle off the displays to raise funds.
The local Wine Shop has been invited in to hold a wine tasting
evening.
The local “Dog Walkers” come in for our residents weekly for our
residents to enjoy a petting afternoon.
The local jewellers come into the home regularly to show their designs
and the residents make small purchases and buy gifts.
We have our own in
house clothing company that set up shop which allows our residents the freedom to shop for their own clothes and
accessories, in the comfort of their own home. The home also receives a 15%
donation from the clothing ladies for the Residents Fund.
The local Bell Ringers come into the home to entertain several
evenings per year.
The local Confectioner has been into the home to show us his cake
decorating skills
And we are the proposed
2010 project for the local Gardening Club, whose aim is to involve the residents in assisting with the
making a section of the garden into a sensory area.
